Message for July 14, 2019 from Pastor Shirley

“Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.” I Timothy 6:12 (NKJV)

“….I found it necessary to write to you exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints.” Jude 3 (NKJV)

“Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering for He who promised is faithful.” Heb. 10:23 (NKJV)

Would you agree that things are much different in society now than they were two thousand years ago?  Society nationally, culturally, and worldly has gone through many times of change over the years. Some seem to be for the better and some are for the worse.  All of us are engaged with life around us trying to find the path in which to walk. There are many of us who have made it our choice to take the Bible as our standard for living.

It seems imperative that our forefathers recognized a time coming when society and the Bible would be at a standoff about morals and behavior.  It would seem that the fight for life on this planet is in full swing. Battle lines are being drawn and the time to choose is now. I have chosen to take my stand on the Word of God.

By that I mean God’s Word has priority over the beliefs of society when there is a conflict between the two.  We are not called to conform our spiritual beliefs to fit the society around us. We are called to “fight the good fight” and keep the faith.  We are not to stand by passively when what we are taught by Scripture, rightfully interpreted, is not the standard of our society. What is a good fight? It is a fight you win! Better yet, it is a fight not fought with carnal weapons but spiritual.  Ultimate warfare is fought with the heart and mouth as we believe and confess.

Much of what goes on, especially in academic and political venues, has no real concern about what God has to say about anything.  A recent poll conducted found that most people say they never consult the clergy about decisions in their lives. So many aren’t even sure they believe in God.  Where do you fit in this?
