New Year’s Resolutions by Pastor LaVerne

Like everyone else at the beginning of the new year, I try to decided areas in my life that I really need to work on.  Some of the areas are physical and others are spiritual, and then some have to do with relationships.

In every Christian’s life there are two areas that can be more difficult to commit.  The first is our tongue.  James says no man can tame the tongue.  Only the Holy Spirit can assist us in controling what comes out of our mouths.  Do we speak doubt, gloom, and unbelief?   Is our conversation “grace seasoned with salt” or is it rude and filled with gossip? Ephesians 4:29  (amp) says, “Let no foul or polluting language, nor evil word nor unwholesome or worthless talk ever come out of your mouth, but only such speech as is good and beneficial to the spiritual progress of others, as is fitting to the blessing and give grace (God’s favor)to those who hear it.”

The second area of commitment is our money.  In the economic conditions of today it is easy to look at the circumstances and say, “I can’t afford to give.”  The Word says the opposite. If you want to prosper and succeed in overcoming your financial situation, the Word says in Malachi 3:10-11, “Bring all the tithes (the whole tenth of your income) into the storehouse (church), that there may be food in My houe, and prove Me now by it, says the Lord of hosts, If I wll not open the windows of heaven for you and pour you out a blessing that there shall not be room enough  to receive it.  And I will rebuke the devourer (insects and plagues) for your sakes and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground, neither shall your vine drop its fruit before the time in the field, says the Lord of hosts.”    WHY NOT MAKE YOUR NEW COMMITMENT NOW?
